What an amazing weekend…
Some highlights in photos:
Yes, our wedding is featured in The Knot Pennsylvania & Delaware Spring/Summer 2014 issue! One of The Knot’s editors emailed me months ago saying that they wanted to feature our wedding as one of weddings in the “Real Wedding” section and I found out this Thursday that the issue was finally out! It was (still is) surreal seeing our wedding photos in a major wedding magazine! The issue is in all major bookstores in the Philly/Delaware area if you want to see it for yourself ;)
I made this apple tart for a Christmas party. It’s one of my go-to holiday desserts since it’s so pretty and is always a crowd pleaser. We had it with vanilla ice cream and it was gone within minutes. Even though it looks super fancy, it’s actually pretty easy to make. I used a mandolin this time around and it cut down the prep time by half. I’ll post a “tutorial” one of these days :)
And yes… I turned 30 this weekend… I’m one of those people who hate their birthdays and want to pretend like it never happens but since it was the big 3-0 this year, I couldn’t quite ignore it. It was actually great being able to celebrate it with some of my favorite people.
Highlights of turning 30: I got to eat some amazing food such as the maple-brined pork belly and pear salad below at Vernick, one of my new favorite restaurants in Philly.
Another huge highlight of turning 30: My wonderful husband got me a brand new camera and some amazing friends got me a lens kit for it!
I’ve been having so much fun experimenting and playing with it. There’s so much to learn about taking better photos and I’m really looking forward to being able to take some awesome photos with it. The photos below are some that I took with the new camera as I got a bit too excited about being the new owner of the Rebel T3i. I don’t know anything about lighting and aperture and all that yet but it’s amazing how good the photos look compared to iphone photos, especially with the amazing lens my friends got for me!

Today’s birthday lunch: Korean seaweed soup that my mother-in-law made for me that’s traditionally eaten on your birthday.

People keep telling me that 30’s are awesome–no doubt partly to dispel my obvious reluctance to enter into the third decade of my life–and there’s a part of me that almost believe it. There were some great times and not so great times in my twenties but overall, I feel so much more confident of who I am and what I believe in because of everything I went through the past ten years. Mostly, I feel so blessed and grateful for all the amazing people in my life as I reach this milestone…
I ran across one of Buzzfeed’s list a while ago, 27 Underrated Things About Being In Your Thirties. Some of the points are dead on (1, 17, 19, 21, 27). I guess turning 30 isn’t the end of the world; so far so good :)
